In a move to oppose the disqualification of Congress Leader Rahul Gandhi, the members of the Parliament appeared in the session wearing black clothes to showcase their dissatisfaction over such conduct. The opposition parties have come together to protest against the recent sentence that Rahul Gandhi has given him for his alleged attempt to defame the Indian Prime Minister. According to the opposition leaders, such an incident marks the end of democracy. The leaders demonstrated placards with a message to save democracy from the government’s autocratic conduct, leaving no stone unturned to silence the public’s voice.

A meeting was organized at the residence of chief head of Congress, Mallikarjun Kharje. The leaders of the opposition attended it. The opposition parties, such as Trinamool Congress and Akali Dal, voiced their concerns over the recent disqualification. They addressed the meeting and cited examples of all the incidents ever since the Bharatiya Janata Party came to power. Discussions were made to decide the course of action for opposing the ruling party’s move.

Rahul Gandhi has been an integral part of the Indian Political System. His disqualification happened after the Supreme Court sentenced him to 2 years for his alleged defamatory remarks on the Prime Minister. The case was filed by the former finance minister of Gujarat four years back. The petitioner had successfully proved before the Court of Law that the comments waged by the Congress chief outraged the modesty of his position and were very derogatory to hear. The Court accepted the arguments and hence awarded the Lok Sabha Member a sentence of 2 years.

The opposition leaders are raising their voices on the ruling party’s actions. While issuing slogans in the ongoing session a day before, the opposition leaders demanded a fair proceeding to this entire issue wherein Rahul Gandhi is provided with an opportunity to present his case and arguments before the presiding officer of the house. The members had also demanded the institution of a commission to interrogate the entire Adani issue; however, no such development has taken place in this regard. These noisy voices ultimately led to the house getting adjourned for the day.

The ruling party have preferred to remain silent and avoid any discussion in this regard. The Government has decided to abide by the decision of the Supreme Court, and the fact that Rahul Gandhi has been sentenced to an imprisonment of 2 years is enough to uphold the disqualification of the member from the House of People, which is being repeated by the Ruling party again and again.
